Scarabeo 6 is a semisubmersible self propelled drilling unit, six column stabilised, rated for operation in water depth up to 548 m. It consists of a main deck supported by 6 columns, 2 pontoons, 3 horizontal bracings, 8 upright diagonal bracings and 4 horizontal diagonal bracings.

Built in 1998 Scarabeo 6 has been upgraded to full capabilities to operate in compliance with the NPD/NMD Norwegian requirements.

The decks comprise the main pipe deck (570 sq.m), the riser deck (150 sq.m) and the aft deck (90 sq.m) which is suitable for handling subsea production and testing equipment.

DRILLING EQUIPMENT

The Scarabeo 6’s drilling equipment is designated to reach a vertical depth of 7,620 m in 548 m of water depth and is outfitted with a 1,400,000 lbs dynamic hook-load and a 650 tons (m) Maritime Hydraulic top drive. The large pipe rack area is suitable for storage and handling of 50 ft long riser joint.

SYSTEM

The rig system is made with a high degree of redundancy. System have power supplies from redundant subsystems and may be controlled from alternative control stations. This arrangement reduces the possibility of total blackout and improves operability under emergency.

All pipings, such as cooling water, fuel oil, ballast, service air are, as far as possible, routed clear of hazardous areas.
