This Friday 23rd November this year’s Christmas illuminations were switched on by Fifteen-year-old Liam Ignacio.

Liam was accompanied by his family and friends, and The Hon. Samantha Sacramento, Minister for Equality and Social Services

A large crowd assembled to watch the ceremony and listen to the girls choir singing traditional songs.

This year there was a Christmas decoration designed and constructed by Dorian Zammit under the guidance of Gibraltar Electricity Authority technicians.

Dorian attends St Bernadette’s Resource Centre and as part of the Care Agency work placement training scheme, he spends one hour a week in the Electrotechnical Division as he shows an interest in the field.

In one of his placement sessions, he showed the Gibraltar Electricity Authority a drawing of a Christmas decoration that he had designed and asked if they would help him construct it.

Dorian worked diligently under the supervision of both his care workers from St Bernadette’s and GEA technicians and has successfully completed his wish.

Dorian’s work, is displayed in Parliament Square.

The rest of Main Street is lit up with a range of designs using low energy LED lighting.

the illuminations will come on automatically, every day until the 6th January 2013, from 5.00pm until 1.00am. As customary, they will remain on throughout the nights of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and the 5th January 2013.
